Introduction
The Tanzkongress.NITEhotel is based on the NITE Hotel, by Guy Weizman and Martijn Halie. It is conceived as a three-dimensional space through which visitors can experience media content spatially.
The Tanzkongress can be experienced here both live and on demand through selected streams, theme-related podcasts, a graphic live documentation by graphicrecording.cool, the adaptation of the multiscreen video installation TimeCapsule2022, a dancing 3D avatar whose movements derive from a motion-capture box in Mainz and much more.
Below you will find a screen capturing of the virtual environment of Tanzkongress 2022, starting in the Tanzkongress.NITEhotel lobby – a virtual hotel reception. This is the starting point to enter the virtual Tanzkongress 2022 and to get to the virtual Tritonplatz. In Mainz, the real square connects Großes Haus and Kleines Haus of the Staatstheater and is the central meeting place during the Tanzkongress. It also forms the center in the virtual space. Here, the CongressAvatar dances and shows the movements that are recorded via the motion-capture box on site in Mainz. At various points on the square, podcasts can be listened to and videos watched, and other virtual spaces open up from Tritonplatz. For example, the video installation TimeCapsule2022 has its own virtual exhibition space, and a gallery space features the documentary drawings of graphicrecording.cool, which will be uploaded live during the congress. In the virtual theater all streams of the Tanzkongress can be seen live and most of them can be accessed as recordings afterwards. In an interactive gallery space around the future of dance profession and dance education, visitors are invited to react and leave comments.
The Tanzkongress.NITEhotel was funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR initiative, support programme tanz digital of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
